Diyanet İlmî Dergi’nin kıymetli okurları,
İnsanlık tarihinin en önemli dönüm noktalarından biri, hiç şüphesiz Hz. Muhammed’in (s.a.s.) dünyayı teşrifleridir.
Peygamber’in ortaya koyduğu değerler sisteminin daha iyi anlaşılmasına duyulan ihtiyaç her geçen gün artmaktadır.

Peygamber’in serdettiği ve Ehl-i sünnet düşüncesinde sistemleşen denge çerçevesinde, değerlendirmeye tabi tutmaktadır. Mustafa Yalçınkaya, “Hz. Peygamber’in Ümmet Bilinci ve Kelâmî Perspektiften Uhuvvetin Evrensel Boyutu” adlı çalışmasıyla Hz.

Ömer Dursun, “Hakîkat-i Muhammediyye Düşüncesinde Hz. Peygamber’in Âlemlere Rahmet Oluşunun Anlamı” konulu çalışmasıyla muhakkik sûfîlerin, yaratılışın gayesi bağlamında ortaya koydukları hakikat-i Muhammediyye düşüncesinden yola çıkarak Hz. Peygamber’e (s.a.s.) ait hakikatle temsil edilen ilâhî rahmetin yaratılış sürecindeki konum ve işlevini incelemekte; rahmetin muhabbet ve marifetle ilişkisini ele alarak Hakk’ın bilinme iradesinin yaratılışın gayesi olarak nasıl temellendirildiğini ele almaktadır.
“Ebû Hanîfe’nin Hz. Peygamber Medhiyyesi: Kasîde-i Nu‘mâniyye ve Manzum Tercümesi” isimli makalesiyle İbrahim Akyol, Ebû Hanîfe’ye aidiyetinde tartışma bulunan 53 beyitlik Kasîde-i Nu‘mâniyye’yi yer yer bazı imge ve ifadeleri şerh eden Yalvaçlı İbrahim Efendi’nin manzum tercümesi üzerinden alan yazına bir katkı olarak sunmaktadır. Gökhan Coşgun, “Recâîzâde İbrahim Şefîk Bey’in Na‘tları” adlı çalışmasıyla Hz. Peygamber sevgisini konu edinen edebî na’t türünü; Osmanlının son dönemlerinde yaşayan İbrahim Şefik Bey’in na’tları üzerinden ele almakta bu na’tları şekil ve muhteva yönünden tahlil etmektedir.

From the Editor
Esteemed Readers of the Diyanet İlmî Journal,
One of the most significant turning points in human history is undoubtedly the advent of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). He was not merely a historical figure who transformed a single society; rather, as the final Messenger of Allah, he was a universal guide who showed humanity the path of guidance, justice, mercy, and wisdom. Described in the Holy Qur’an as “a mercy to the worlds,” the Prophet left profound marks on both the material and spiritual realms of humanity through the divine message he conveyed and his exemplary life. Over the centuries, he has shaped the thought, morality, and conception of civilization of millions of people living across different geographies. To comprehend his exemplary model properly is not merely to acquire religious knowledge; it is to unite faith with morality, worship with responsibility, and humanity with compassion. The guidance of the Prophet continues to demonstrate to believers the possibilities of a more conscious servitude to their Lord and a more just, honest, and compassionate life toward humanity.
Considering the moral, social, and cultural challenges confronting humanity today, the need for a deeper understanding of the system of values established by the Prophet is increasing with each passing day. Universal principles such as justice, mercy, respect for human dignity, the ethics of coexistence, trustworthiness, and responsibility are among the fundamental values that found concrete expression in his life. In this respect, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) retains his significance not only for Muslims but also as a universal model addressing the common conscience of humanity.
The endeavor to understand the life of the Prophet, his sayings, practices, and the system of values he represented continues to be one of the most deeply rooted and productive fields of inquiry within the Islamic scholarly tradition. In this tradition, studies of sīrah and hadith have constituted the two principal pillars of efforts to understand the Prophet. While sīrah examines his life and mission of proclamation within its historical context, the science of hadith investigates the scholarly legacy that transmitted his sayings, practices, and exemplary conduct to subsequent generations. In addition, tafsīr, kalām, fiqh, taṣawwuf, Islamic history, literature, and many other disciplines have sought, within the framework of their own methods and perspectives, to understand the Prophet Muhammad, interpret his exemplary model, and convey it to future generations. This multidimensional scholarly heritage, accumulated over centuries, enables a more comprehensive understanding of the Prophet not merely as a historical figure but as a living model of guidance for humanity in every age.
Prepared on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of his birth, this issue entitled “The Prophet Muhammad (saw), Mercy to the Worlds, on the 1500th Anniversary of His Birth” aims to present readers with studies that offer an opportunity to reconsider the Prophet as a universal exemplar. This issue includes articles evaluating the possibilities that the Prophet’s example offers to the contemporary world. In this way, it seeks both to encourage a renewed reading of the rich legacy preserved in the classical sources and to introduce readers to the new perspectives put forward by contemporary scholarship. It is hoped that, in addition to making a modest contribution to the existing literature on the Prophet, this issue will also provide a foundation for future research on his life and message.
In this issue devoted to “The Prophet Muhammad (saw), Mercy to the Worlds, on the 1500th Anniversary of His Birth,” we are pleased to present ten articles that we believe will contribute to their respective fields.
In her study entitled “Rereading the Universal Teaching and Principles of the Farewell Sermon in the Face of Contemporary Human Rights Violations,” Emine Gümüş Böke aims to demonstrate the relationship between the fundamental human rights principles contained in the Farewell Sermon and contemporary understandings of human rights. In his article, “The Gradual Transformation of the Language of Da‘wah from Individual Faith to Social Construction,” Şaban Kondi examines the gradual transformation of the language of proclamation and invitation during the Meccan and Medinan periods as a process extending from the construction of individual faith to the establishment of a social order.
In his study entitled “The Religious Doctrinal Structure of Pre-Islamic Arab Society,” Ramazan Altıntaş evaluates the belief system of the Jāhiliyyah Arab society as a “cosmology of shirk” possessing its own internal coherence, based on concepts that had undergone deformation. In his article, “Building a Civilization with the Unity of Faith and Action: The Prophet Muhammad and the Construction of Islamic Civilization,” Muzaffer Barlak examines the relationship between faith and deeds-a matter that came to the fore as a result of the instability and internal conflicts that emerged shortly after the Prophet’s death-within the framework of the balance articulated by the Prophet as the founder of Islamic civilization and systematized in Sunni thought. In his study entitled “The Prophet Muhammad’s Consciousness of the Ummah and the Universal Dimension of Ukhuwwah from a Theological (Kalām) Perspective,” Mustafa Yalçınkaya investigates the consciousness of ummah established by the Prophet from a theological perspective and discusses the ontological, epistemological, and universal dimensions of the brotherhood of faith as one of its reflections.
In his article, “The Resistance of the Prophet Muhammad and the Early Muslims During the Boycott Period,” Hasan Telli analyzes the boycott imposed by the polytheists against the Prophet, the early Muslims, and the Banū Hāshim through the Qur’anic verses revealed during that period and the sources of sīrah. By examining the revealed verses together with sīrah reports, he approaches the subject from a different and holistic perspective. In his study entitled “The Pedagogical Approach of the Quran and Sunnah to the Jahiliyyah Culture of Violence,” Mustafa Soycan focuses on the pedagogical manner in which the Qur’an addressed the people of the Arabian Peninsula during the period of Islamic proclamation and how it transformed this violence-based environment through a profound change of mentality.
In his study entitled “The Meaning of the Prophet Muhammad’s Mercy to the Worlds in Sufi Thought,” Ömer Dursun examines the position and function of the divine mercy represented by the Muhammadan Reality in the process of creation, drawing upon the doctrine of al-Ḥaqīqah al-Muḥammadiyyah developed by the verifying Sufis in the context of the purpose of creation. He also addresses the relationship of mercy with love and gnosis, exploring how God’s will to be known is grounded as the purpose of creation.
In his article entitled “Abu Hanıfa’s Eulogy for the Prophet: Qasida-i Nu’maniyya and its Verse Translation,” Ibrahim Akyol presents, as a contribution to the scholarly literature, the fifty-three-couplet al-Qaṣīdah al-Nuʿmāniyyah-whose attribution to Abū Ḥanīfah remains a matter of debate-through the poetic translation of Yalvaçlı İbrahim Efendi, who explains certain images and expressions in places. In his study entitled “The Na‘ts of Recâizâde İbrahim Şefîk Bey,” Gökhan Coşgun examines the literary genre of naʿt, which centers on love for the Prophet, through the naʿts of İbrahim Şefîk Bey, who lived during the late Ottoman period, and analyzes these poems in terms of both form and content.
On this occasion, we would like to express our gratitude to the esteemed researchers who contributed to this issue entitled “The Prophet Muhammad (saw), Mercy to the Worlds, on the 1500th Anniversary of His Birth,” to the reviewers who supported the publication process through their meticulous evaluations, and to all our colleagues whose efforts contributed to the preparation of this journal. We pray to Almighty Allah that this issue, which we hope will contribute to a closer understanding of the Prophet’s life, Sunnah, and the universal legacy he left to humanity, will prove beneficial to the scholarly community and to our readers.
